While Katy Perry was showing the world what she’s worth, Orlando Bloom was attracting attention of his own.
The “Firework” singer took the stage at the 2024 MTV VMAs—hosted by Megan Thee Stallion—on Sept. 11, to give an epic nine-minute performance of her greatest hits ahead of accepting the Video Vanguard Award.
Kicking off Perry’s performance, the Pirates of the Caribbean star introduced his “irresistible” fiancée to the crowd, gushing, “You fell in love with her as Katy Perry. I fell in love with her as Katherine Hudson. You know her as a global superstar who brings love, light, and her unique sense of humor to every song she writes and music video she creates. I know her as a mother, as a partner, who brings that same love and joy to our family.”
But as the 39-year-old wowed on stage dancing and belting out songs like “Dark Horse,” “E.T.,” “California Gurls,” “I Kissed a Girl,” Firework,” and more, fans took note of Bloom in the audience thanks to his facial expressions.
Indeed, Perry—who shares 4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove with Bloom—and collaborator Doechii got pulses racing to their new sexy track “I’m His, He’s Mine,” leaning in for a kiss before the camera cut to the British actor, who appeared to be squinting at the stage while sitting next to a smiling, singing Paris Hilton.
The camera cut back to the Lord of the Rings star several times throughout the medley of songs where his still figure was noticeable amidst the dancing and singing fans.
Of course, the internet took notice and delighted in Bloom’s reactions.
“Okay… Orlando Bloom’s reaction to Katy Perry shaking her butt cheeks, spreading eagle, scissoring and kissing a girl at #VMAs was pretty iconic hahaha!” one fan wrote, while another noted, “Did it appear to anyone else as if orlando bloom may not be familiar with the song california gurls.”
However, it’s quite clear that the two remain each other’s biggest fans. In fact, in her Video Vanguard Acceptance speech, Perry gave Bloom a special shoutout.
“Thank you to Orlando,” she said, “for keeping me grounded, celebrated, and doing the dishes.”
The cheeky comment was a reference to Perry’s recent Call Her Daddy With Alex Cooper interview, where she shared that acts of service are her love language.
"If I come downstairs and the kitchen is clean, and you've done it all," Perry said on the Sept. 4 episode, "and you've done all the dishes, and you've closed all the pantry doors, you better be ready to get your d--k sucked."
